Bangladesh Lifts Fuel Prices by Tk 20 a Litre in Third Hike Since February
Bangladesh raised retail prices of all major petroleum products by Tk 20 a litre, its third fuel price hike in seven months, according to news18 and The Telegraph. Cumulative retail increases since February now reach as much as 38.4%.
The new prices took effect on Monday, an Energy Ministry spokesperson said, as reported by ABP Live. According to Daily New Nation, the adjustment was effective September 21, 2026, lifting diesel from Tk 115 to Tk 135 per litre, octane from Tk 145 to Tk 165, petrol from Tk 140 to Tk 160 and kerosene from Tk 135 to Tk 155.
After the increase, diesel costs Tk 135 a litre, kerosene Tk 155, octane Tk 165 and petrol Tk 160, The Financial Express reported.
Bangladesh's Energy Ministry attributed the move to international fuel prices more than doubling since March and higher freight costs amid regional instability, according to news18 and The Telegraph.
Daily New Nation reported that the government's principal justification is the rise in international oil prices and substantial losses at the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation.
BPC officials said the corporation spent about Tk 23,000 crore extra on fuel imports over six months from March because international fuel prices and freight charges increased, The Bangladesh Today reported.
