BloombergNEF doubles US data-center gas forecast to 15 Bcf/d by 2035
US data centers will pull an extra 15 billion cubic feet per day of natural gas for power generation over the ten years ending in 2035, BloombergNEF projects, a figure that already strips out announced projects unlikely to reach completion.
That added draw runs above the entire current gas use of any country outside China, Russia, Iran and the United States, drawing on US Energy Information Administration data cited in the report.
The number more than doubles the 6.9 billion cubic feet per day the firm published in December. Behind the revision sits a steeper compute-load curve: BloombergNEF now puts US data-center power demand at 118 gigawatts of installed capacity by 2030, 52% above its December 2025 estimate, before climbing to 194 GW by 2035.
Across the wider power fleet, BloombergNEF sees US power-sector gas burn hitting 54 billion cubic feet per day by 2035, an 18 billion cubic feet per day rise from the 2025 level.
Producers are the choke point. Domestic output is on track to grow by 35 billion cubic feet per day across the same ten-year span, leaving a gap of 11 billion cubic feet per day against forecast demand, according to BloombergNEF.
