The board of Mexico's Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) approved a restructuring of the state-owned company. The reorganization divides CFE's principal functions into three areas: generation, electricity networks and commercial policy.

CFE said the new organization seeks to strengthen its operations and the reliability of the national electricity system under an approach focused on energy justice, sustainable development and an orderly energy transition.

The Operations Directorate is being transformed into the Generation and External Producers Directorate. Francisco Javier Maldonado Ramos will head that directorate.

CFE is creating an Electricity Networks Directorate that will combine electricity transmission and distribution processes. The company said the new area will seek to strengthen the reliability of the national transmission and general distribution networks. The directorate will include a Transmission Subdirectorate with three coordinating units and a Distribution Subdirectorate with one coordinating unit. Guillermo Nevárez Elizondo was appointed to head the new directorate.

The former Specialized Services and Commercial Strategy Directorate is being transformed into the Commercial Policy Directorate. That directorate will include a Commercial Strategy Subdirectorate comprising the Commercial Coordination and Wholesale Electricity Market Coordination units. José Martín Mendoza Hernández will head the Commercial Policy Directorate.

The TELECOM Coordination is being transformed into the Connectivity Services Subdirectorate. The Specialized Services Coordination is being reassigned to the General Directorate.

The board also appointed Pedro Castillo Porter as the new human resources subdirector. The new structure returns Mendoza Hernández and Nevárez Elizondo to management positions at CFE.
