Emir of Kano Urges Measured Retail Participation in Dangote Refinery IPO
The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has called on individuals, entrepreneurs and businesses in Kano State to subscribe to the initial public offering of Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited, framing equity ownership as a route to long-term wealth creation, according to The Sun.
Sanusi extended the appeal nationally, urging Nigerians to take part in the offer and become shareholders in the refinery, Legit reported. Speaking to a Kano audience, he said he wanted residents of the state to enter the capital market through the transaction and not be left behind, according to The Whistler.
The monarch paired the endorsement with explicit risk warnings. He advised prospective investors not to sell their homes or divert their children's school fees to buy shares, telling them to commit only funds they could comfortably set aside, The Whistler reported. Legit cited him cautioning against using money earmarked for essential family responsibilities and telling shareholders to maintain a long-term outlook on equity investments.
Sanusi urged subscribers to treat the purchase as a long-term investment rather than a vehicle for quick profits, according to The Times of Nigeria. Daily Trust carried the same guidance under the headline warning against selling a house to buy Dangote shares.
