Georgia Power's Robins battery reaches commercial operation with 512 MWh capacity
Georgia Power's Robins Battery Facility can deliver as much as 512 MWh of stored energy over a four-hour period at maximum output. The facility can supply that stored energy to the grid for up to four hours.
The battery is paired with the nearby Robins Solar Facility. According to Georgia Power, pairing the battery with the nearby solar facility strengthens energy resilience and helps support Georgia's continued growth.
Burns & McDonnell served as the engineering, procurement and construction contractor for the Robins Battery Facility. The project was delivered on schedule.
The Robins Battery Facility is one of four battery energy storage projects approved in Georgia Power's 2023 Integrated Resource Plan update. Georgia Power has completed battery storage facilities in Cherokee and Lowndes counties totaling 579.5 MW. It is nearing completion of a 57.5 MW facility in Floyd County.
The Georgia Public Service Commission has approved nine additional battery facilities across eight sites statewide, adding more than 3,000 MW of energy storage capacity. Georgia Power selected sites based on their ability to efficiently support grid operations, including proximity to existing infrastructure, substations and company-owned properties.
To help meet growing energy needs, Georgia Power has received approval for two solar facilities paired with battery storage, providing a combined 350 MW of generating capacity. The new solar-plus-storage facilities will be located in Laurens and Mitchell counties.
