Iberdrola | bp pulse and Electromaps announced a partnership letting Electromaps app users locate, activate and pay directly at the operator's fast and ultra-fast charging points in Portugal, the Jornal Economico reported on August 17, 2026. The deal makes Iberdrola | bp pulse the first electric mobility operator to integrate its charging network into Electromaps in Portugal.

The network being opened is not marginal. Iberdrola | bp pulse operates more than 500 fast and ultra-fast charging points in Portugal and more than 2,500 across the Iberian Peninsula. Output at those sites can reach 600 kilowatts.

Roaming access, rather than new hardware, is what changes here. Drivers can use the Electromaps app or the Electropass card to manage charging needs along a route, an arrangement aimed at trips between Portugal and Spain covering tourists, professional fleets and private motorists.

"This partnership allows us to accelerate the transition to sustainable mobility and make the ultra-fast charging network increasingly accessible to users," said Ricardo Pacheco, country manager of Iberdrola | bp pulse in Portugal.

Electromaps chief executive Xavier Canadell said the agreement would extend coverage and simplify life for electric vehicle drivers.

The charging operator itself is a joint structure: Iberdrola | bp pulse is an equal strategic alliance between Iberdrola and bp pulse, formed to develop public high-power charging networks in Spain and Portugal. Electromaps is headquartered in Barcelona and sits within the Wallbox group; it publishes charge-point information and lets users locate, activate and pay for sessions through its mobile app or RFID devices.

For infrastructure owners, the decision to let a third-party aggregator handle discovery, activation and payment is a commercial trade-off. It surrenders the direct app relationship with the driver in exchange for traffic from anyone already holding an Electromaps account or an Electropass card. The first-mover framing in the announcement indicates that other Portuguese charge-point operators have kept their networks closed to the platform.

Iberdrola is also pushing its consumer offer through physical channels in Portugal. A fully electric van is touring fairs and markets in the country's interior, stopping in towns including Alpendurada, Soito, Fundao, Vila Real, Seia, Lamego, Penalva do Castelo and Paredes de Coura, under the slogan "A energia de que precisa esta a caminho". At each stop a team presents electricity, solar and electric mobility products matched to different consumption habits, alongside small giveaways, with the stated aim of answering questions away from a traditional counter.

"Being close to people, listening to them and understanding their daily lives is what allows us to design solutions tailored to each family," said Joana Balsa, marketing director at Iberdrola, who framed the tour as bringing customers closer to green energy generated from sun, water and wind.

The company backs that outreach with a network of more than 70 customer service locations across the country. The tour was described in an article published by NiT on 06/08/2026, written by Ines Dias in partnership with Iberdrola, making it commercial content. NiT is a registered trademark of MadMen, Lda.
