Petrobras Names Two Seatrium-Built FPSOs Adding 450,000 b/d at Buzios from 2027
Petrobras and Seatrium held a naming ceremony in Singapore for the P-80 and P-82 floating production units, two vessels that together can add 450,000 barrels per day of capacity at the Buzios field once they start up in 2027.
Each hull is designed for 225,000 barrels per day of oil production and 12 million cubic metres per day of gas processing. Each also carries water injection capacity of roughly 250,000 barrels per day and storage for about 2.5 million barrels of oil.
The two units are in the final phase of module integration and will sail for Brazil in the coming weeks, according to the ceremony announcement. Petrobras expects production to begin in 2027 after the transit and offshore commissioning.
Seatrium estimates the entry of the two vessels could raise Brazil's national oil production by approximately 10%. Buzios, in the pre-salt of the Santos Basin, has already passed 1.2 million barrels per day, Petrobras chief executive Magda Chambriard said. The P-80 will be the ninth FPSO at the field and the P-82 the tenth, taking installed capacity there up by about 34%.
Both units were built under an engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning contract, with Seatrium responsible for engineering, supply, construction and commissioning through to delivery for operation in Brazil. Process modules were fabricated in Brazil as well as in China, Singapore and Indonesia, then shipped to Singapore for final integration.
The vessels leave Seatrium's Tuas Boulevard Yard in Singapore weeks apart following the naming ceremonies. They are the 47th and 48th projects Seatrium has developed for Petrobras, and the second and third FPSOs the yard has delivered in the P-Series design after the P-78.
More units are behind them. Chambriard said the P-83, P-84 and P-85 will be completed after the P-80 and P-82, headed for the Buzios, Atapu and Sepia fields respectively. She described the vessels as part of a new cycle of six high-capacity production units.
"Coordinating six large long-duration projects simultaneously is an extremely complex task," said Seatrium chief executive Chris Ong. The company manages six large long-term projects at the same time, and has developed 48 projects for Petrobras across more than 30 years of partnership, with three P-Series FPSOs still at its facilities.
The new platforms carry technologies aimed at operational efficiency and emissions reduction, including carbon capture and reinjection (CCUS) and energy recovery systems.
Buzios output is already reaching international buyers through pre-salt profit-oil auctions. Petrobras and PetroChina won cargoes from the Buzios field, according to PPSA in a Reuters report.
