Masdar has entered into a collaboration agreement with Azerbaijan Green Energy Company (AGEC) to develop new renewable energy projects in Azerbaijan. The pact was signed in Baku.

The agreement envisages expanding Masdar's existing Garadagh solar plant by a minimum of 350 MW. That expansion includes the addition of up to 200 MWh of battery energy storage.

Masdar and AGEC will also explore the development of a 100 MW round-the-clock renewable energy project. AGEC's deputy chairman identified Nakhchivan as the location being explored for round-the-clock renewable power.

The agreement was signed by Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Chairman of Masdar, and Khayala Naghiyeva, Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board of AGEC. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi and National Security Adviser of the UAE, witnessed the signing.

Masdar's existing Garadagh solar PV plant has 230 MW of capacity. The plant generates enough electricity to power more than 110,000 homes. The Garadagh project was inaugurated in 2023, and it marked Masdar's entry into Azerbaijan's market. It was Azerbaijan's first foreign investment-based independent utility-scale solar power project.

Masdar said it aims to deliver reliable and flexible energy solutions that support Azerbaijan's growing power needs.
