PETRONAS Lubricants Locks Exclusive IVECO Fluids Supply Through 2032
PETRONAS Lubricants International (PLI) and IVECO signed a renewed agreement extending their partnership through 2032, covering the exclusive supply and joint development of the IVECO URANIA and IVECO TUTELA product lines, the only fluids officially recommended by IVECO.
The extension runs five years beyond the previous term. Reporting on the deal has differed on the end date: Aftersales Truck described the extension as running to 2031, while Transporama and moto.co.pl both put the horizon at 2032.
Exclusivity is the commercial core of the arrangement. PLI remains the developer of lubricants and technical fluids for IVECO's commercial vehicles, spanning advanced engine oils, transmission fluids, brake fluids, and coolants. That scope locks a single lubricants supplier into the specification sheet of an entire commercial vehicle portfolio, and into the aftermarket revenue that follows each vehicle through its service life.
The URANIA and TUTELA ranges have been developed jointly by the two companies over five decades. The relationship itself dates back more than 50 years, during which the partners built out engine oils and fluids for transmissions, braking systems, and cooling systems.
The most recent product from the arrangement is Urania Next 0W-16, described as the first SAE 0W-16 engine oil developed specifically for heavy-duty applications. The oil is presented as delivering lower fuel consumption, reduced CO2 emissions, and longer intervals between oil changes. Its formulation is described as ready for the Euro 7 standard, aimed at IVECO's newest generation of engines.
A move to 0W-16 viscosity in heavy-duty service is unusual. Thinner oils cut pumping and friction losses, which is where the claimed fuel efficiency gain originates, but heavy-duty duty cycles impose loads that low-viscosity formulations have historically struggled to protect against. Tying that specification to an exclusive supply contract means the engine maker and the lubricant maker carry the validation risk together rather than through an open aftermarket.
Beyond product development, the renewed agreement extends into distribution. PLI is strengthening its support of IVECO's dealer networks in Europe and Latin America, with the stated objectives of greater customer value, reliability, and optimisation of total cost of ownership. Targeted initiatives are planned to support dealer business development across European and South American markets. The two companies also intend to widen cooperation with the dealer network through joint dealer support and customer information programmes.
Domenico Nucera, Chief Quality and Operations Officer at Iveco Group, said the extension of the agreement with PLI confirms the strength of a long-running collaboration built on shared technical expertise. Domenico Ciaglia, Group Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer at PLI, also commented on the extension.
For a national oil company's lubricants arm, an exclusive original-equipment fluids mandate is a different asset class from base oil or fuel sales. It is contracted volume, priced off a specification the supplier co-authors, insulated from spot competition, and it travels with every truck the manufacturer sells for the life of the agreement. The Euro 7 readiness claim matters on the same terms: emissions-standard compliance is written into the fluid specification, which raises the switching cost for the vehicle maker and lengthens the effective duration of the lock-in beyond the contract's nominal end date.
PLI and IVECO said they will continue to create solutions matched to the demanding operating conditions of IVECO commercial vehicles in Europe, with the agreement guaranteeing joint development across a lubricant range running from engine oils to transmission, brake, and cooling fluids.
Aftersales Truck published its account of the extension on July 13, 2026, written by Maarten van der Westen. Transporama carried its report on July 14, 2026.
