Trump Demands Immediate Pump-Price Cuts From Chevron and Other Oil Companies

US President Donald Trump demanded that oil companies cut consumer fuel prices immediately, tying the call to Chevron's return to Venezuela and to what he described as his administration's own record.

"That also applies to other oil companies... And lower oil prices for consumers, now!" Trump wrote on Truth Social, extending the demand beyond Chevron to the rest of the sector.

The post responded to an interview Chevron chairman and chief executive Mike Wirth gave to journalist Maria Bartiromo, in which Wirth set out the reasons behind the company's strong run, according to Alertas 24. Trump faulted Wirth for not publicly crediting his government for the energy industry's performance.

"The only thing he conveniently forgot to mention is that, without the genius, vision, strength and stability of the Trump Administration, the oil industry, and even our country, would be dead," Trump wrote.

He used Chevron's Venezuela position as his illustration. "They threw Mike and Chevron out of Venezuela, but now they are back, much bigger and stronger than ever, expecting to make a fortune," the post said.

Chevron operated in Venezuela for years under a special licence, which the Trump administration itself revoked earlier this year, according to Alertas 24. That revocation drove a rebound in US crude prices, the outlet reported.

The company later resumed its Venezuelan operations following a series of meetings with oil executives and shifts in Washington's policy toward Caracas.

High gasoline prices and the cost of living carry political risk for the Republican Party ahead of the November legislative elections, Alertas 24 reported. The party risks losing its majority in the House of Representatives and possibly control of the Senate in that vote.
