Army Picks Five Vendors for Microreactors at Five Bases, USD 2.2 Billion Committed
Five vendors will build microreactors at five Army installations under a funding package of roughly USD 2.2 billion spread over FY2027-2031, with each vendor putting up its own capital and payments released as milestones are met, Neutron Bytes reported.
Antares Nuclear draws Fort Bragg. BWXT Advanced Technologies takes Fort Campbell, General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems goes to Fort Hood, Radiant Industries to Fort Benning, and Westinghouse Government Services to Fort Drum, according to Neutron Bytes.
Per-unit output spans 1 MW to 50 MW across the designs due for delivery, Neutron Bytes reported.
None of the USD 2.2 billion is paid up front. Disbursement is tied to milestones, and vendor capital sits alongside the federal money.
Dr. Jeff Waksman, principal deputy assistant secretary of the Army for Installations, Energy and Environment, said the Janus Program is "grabbing the baton" from Project Pele and the Department of Energy's Reactor Pilot Program.
