Baker Hughes Wins Compression and Liquefaction Orders for Venture Global's Plaquemines LNG

Baker Hughes has secured an order to supply gas compression systems for the Cloud Connector Pipeline in Louisiana, which will move feed gas to Venture Global's Plaquemines LNG facility, according to a GlobeNewswire release. The award also covers a modular liquefaction package with cold boxes to support expansion at the same site.

The pipeline scope includes 13 gas compression systems driven by Frame 5/2E gas turbines, which the release describes as one of the largest deployments for LNG feed gas transportation in the United States.

This is the second order of Frame 5/2E gas turbine-driven centrifugal compressor packages for Venture Global's feed gas pipeline, taking the installed fleet to 23 systems serving the Plaquemines facility, according to GlobeNewswire.

On the liquefaction side, Baker Hughes will supply four liquefaction blocks made up of eight liquefaction modules to add LNG production capacity at Plaquemines.

GlobeNewswire reports that the wider relationship between the two companies supports more than 100 MTPA of existing and planned LNG production capacity.

Venture Global CEO Mike Sabel said Baker Hughes has been a trusted partner across the company's LNG facilities and pipeline infrastructure.

Trump Urges Ukraine to Halt Strikes on Russian Refineries, Citing Diesel Prices

US President Donald Trump called on Ukraine to stop striking Russian refineries, saying the attacks were pushing up diesel prices and "hurting the world," according to Semafor Net Zero. The appeal followed a weekend in which Kyiv hit several refineries.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia targeted Ukraine with more than 2,000 drones and nearly 80 ballistic missiles last week, per Semafor Net Zero.

The Financial Times reported that Russia's new jet-powered drones, improved versions of Iranian Shaheds, evade Ukraine's air defenses at a much higher rate than their predecessors.

South African Reserve Bank Says Refinery Closures Added $4.7 Billion to Oil Import Bill

South Africa's oil import bill could have been USD 4.7 billion lower had the country not shut down a number of its refineries, according to the South African Reserve Bank.

Domestic refining capacity has halved over the past decade, and imported refined fuel now covers more than half of local demand, the central bank said in a note cited by Semafor.

Pretoria has announced plans to at least triple its oil refining capacity, a shift Semafor links to growing concern about exposure to global price shocks.

The pressure extends beyond South Africa. Energy imports account for around 70% of the continent's refined fuel needs, per Semafor.

Pemex Isolates Offshore Pipeline After Crude Release in Gulf of Mexico

Pemex has isolated an offshore pipeline about 46 nautical miles off Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche, following a crude oil release, and no further oil is escaping, according to Offshore Engineer OEDigital.

The operator's Cantarell Production Asset personnel detected a pressure drop on September 10 in a line collecting hydrocarbons from the Ek-TA, Balam-TA, Balam-A, Balam-TB and Balam-TA2 platforms, the outlet reported.

Pemex activated its Regional Emergency Response and Management Group the same day and notified the Agency for Safety, Energy and Environment as well as the Mexican Navy Secretariat.

Continuous monitoring of the Gulf of Mexico had ruled out the possibility of hydrocarbons reaching the coastline as of September 12, Pemex said.
