Developer Floats Small Modular Reactor for Amherst County, Virginia
A North Carolina-based developer is exploring an early-stage nuclear energy facility in Amherst County, Virginia, according to WSET. The company presented the idea to county leaders as an early-stage project that could bring major power generation and new jobs.
The developer is evaluating a site for a small modular reactor under what it calls the Beck Creek Energy Project, according to WSET.
The project's informational website says the plant could generate up to 650 MW of power.
GX Power plans to begin hosting public open houses about the project in November, in partnership with the regional business alliance, according to WSLS.
