Eni installs offshore CO2 storage platform in Liverpool Bay

Eni finished installing an offshore CO2 storage platform in Liverpool Bay, UK, the company said on October 9.

The Douglas CCS platform is designed to take CO2 captured from industrial sites across northwest England and North Wales, then send it through existing offshore pipelines converted for CO2 service into depleted gas reservoirs for permanent storage, according to Eni.

Eni describes the facility as a purpose-built offshore platform dedicated to carbon capture and storage for industrial decarbonization.

The structure includes topside facilities weighing 1,885 tonnes and a supporting jacket of 1,755 tonnes. Eight foundation piles anchor the installation, with a combined weight of 730 tonnes.
