BWXT's BANR Microreactor Selected for Indigenous-Led Nuclear Project
BWXT's reactor has been chosen for a microreactor project pairing a transportable design with an Indigenous-led power plant, according to Exchange Monitor.
The BWXT Advanced Nuclear Reactor, known as BANR, is designed as a high-temperature gas-cooled transportable microreactor with a generating capacity of 22 MW of electricity.
The selection followed Prodigy making public its plans to build an Indigenous-led nuclear power plant with a generating capacity of up to 50 MW, according to a Monday press release cited by Exchange Monitor. The plant would be located within the traditional territory of the Pabineau and Eel River Bar First Nations.
