CATL Plans at Least 1 GWh of Sodium-Ion Battery Shipments, Touts High-Temperature Performance

CATL expects to ship at least 1 GWh of sodium-ion batteries in China this year, according to remarks by Zhou, the company's general manager for the region, reported by Energy Storage News.

The company's TENER Sodium battery energy storage system operates at temperatures up to 55 degrees Celsius and delivers more than 10,000 cycles at 45 degrees Celsius, CATL said, according to Energy Storage News. The specifications position the sodium-ion chemistry for deployment in hot climates where lithium-ion alternatives face thermal constraints.

Energy Storage News reported interest in sodium-ion technology from mining and data centre sectors.
