SolarEdge and Infineon Extend Deal on Solid-State Breakers for AI Data Centers

SolarEdge and Infineon have extended their collaboration on solid-state circuit breaker (SSCB) technology for high-voltage DC distribution in AI and hyperscale data centers, according to Solar Builder.

SolarEdge is leading the design of the SSCB solution, Solar Builder reported, while Infineon supplies the silicon carbide (SiC) JFET technology sitting at the core of the protection devices.

The design target is speed. SSCBs are built to interrupt faults within a few microseconds and carry no mechanical contacts that have to separate, per Solar Builder.

Solar Builder also reported on the companion piece of hardware: SolarEdge's solid-state transformer (SST), designed to convert medium voltage of 13.8-34.5 kV directly to 800-1500 VDC at more than 99% efficiency.
