UK Minister Positions CCUS at Core of Reindustrialisation Push

Martin McCluskey, the United Kingdom's Minister for Local Energy and Jobs, said carbon capture, utilisation and storage sits at the heart of the government's reindustrialisation agenda, according to UK DESNZ.

McCluskey said CCUS can decarbonise existing industries, safeguard foundational sectors and create the conditions for new low-carbon products and services, per the DESNZ speech.

He framed the technology as more than a standalone industry. According to DESNZ, McCluskey described CCUS as an enabler of wider industrial growth that creates new markets and supply chains and draws private investment into the country's industrial heartlands.

McCluskey tied the sector to existing offshore capability, saying engineering expertise, project-delivery capability, offshore infrastructure and technical skills built over decades in the North Sea are directly transferable to carbon capture, transport and storage, according to DESNZ.
