Bangladesh reallocates USD 123 million from development budget to rooftop solar loans

Bangladesh's finance ministry has carved a Tk1,500 crore, or USD 123 million, pot out of the current fiscal year's development budget to bankroll concessional loans for rooftop solar and other renewable projects, pv magazine reported. Households, institutions and industrial sites can draw on the facility to install renewable energy systems, including rooftop panels.

The government is chasing 4 GW of rooftop solar capacity before next summer, and wants renewables to cover 20% of national electricity demand by 2030.

A parallel order from the Internal Resources Division on 16 September pared tax on industrial solar imports to a 1% customs duty and scrapped the 15% VAT and 2% advance tax that previously applied.

San Diego County approves Starlight Solar; MOL opens solar-plus-storage site

The San Diego County Board of Supervisors approved the Starlight Solar power and battery storage project for the unincorporated East County community of Boulevard, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. The paper reported the vote proceeded despite objections from residents who argued the clean energy project raised safety concerns.

Starlight Solar pairs a solar farm with up to 100 MW of generating capacity and a 217 MW battery energy storage system, per the Union-Tribune.

Separately, oilprice.com reported that MOL opened a project combining a 37.4 MWp solar park with a battery energy storage system rated at 20 MW and 40 MWh, which the outlet said would allow MOL to store surplus renewable electricity and help manage fluctuations in power generation.
