DOE Approves Safety Design Agreement for Deep Fission's Kansas Reactor

The U.S. Department of Energy approved the nuclear safety design agreement, or NSDA, for Deep Fission's reactor in southeast Kansas.

The approval is an initial step in the federal safety review process. Deep Fission still needs additional documentation and reviews before it can secure federal authorization to operate.

Iceberg Research criticized the company's plans. In its report, Iceberg Research argued that power from the reactor would not be competitive and that the timeline for approval and construction was too ambitious.

Following that report, four stockholder rights law firms announced they were investigating Deep Fission.

Geenex Power Names Riverside Farm Site for Amherst County Small Modular Reactor

Geenex Power has disclosed the proposed site for its small modular nuclear reactor in Amherst County. The location covers about 250 acres between Joshua Falls Road and a bend of the James River, south of Galts Mill Road, according to Cardinal News.

The project, named Beck Creek Energy, is planned to produce up to 650 MW.

Geenex said it chose the site partly for its proximity to an Appalachian Power substation and a connected high-voltage transmission line able to carry that much power.
