I Squared Capital, DFC Form USD 3 Billion Asia Energy Infrastructure Platform

I Squared Capital and the U.S. International Development Finance Corp (DFC) have agreed to form a USD 3 billion investment platform to build energy infrastructure in South and Southeast Asia.

I Squared, based in Miami, will contribute USD 1.5 billion, with DFC providing the other half. The partners said the platform will strengthen energy connectivity between the United States and the Indo-Pacific region, including expanded access to U.S. LNG and related energy exports.

In a joint statement, the partners said the platform represents DFC's largest single investment in a project to date.

The commitment builds on I Squared's existing footprint in the region. The firm has deployed over USD 9 billion in capital across energy, transport and digital sectors in 24 Asian markets since entering the region in 2014.

The transaction is subject to customary approvals and other closing conditions.

Context

DFC is the U.S. government's development finance institution, mandated to mobilize private capital in lower and middle-income markets. The agency's involvement at this scale signals a deeper federal push to position American LNG and energy exports against competing supply sources in South and Southeast Asia, where power demand growth is among the fastest globally.

I Squared Capital is an independent infrastructure investor with prior holdings in regional power generation, transmission, and gas distribution assets. Pairing its operational pipeline with concessional public capital is the standard DFC model for blended-finance vehicles, though the headline ticket size sets a new internal benchmark for the agency.
