US to Offer Producers Up to 40 Million Barrels of Oil From Reserve

The US will offer to loan energy producers up to 40 million barrels of oil, according to Semafor Net Zero. That volume is what remains of a 172 million-barrel government commitment made in March.

The White House is also urging the European Union to draw down emergency diesel inventories to lower global prices, Semafor Net Zero reported.

Energy analyst Patrick De Haan, who runs GasBuddy, said neither the US oil-loan offer nor the proposed European diesel drawdown would likely "move the needle much" on prices.

AI Infrastructure Boom Faces Financing Gap as Data-Centre Power Demand Climbs

AI infrastructure companies can no longer self-fund their pace of expansion and are turning to debt, structured financing and GPU-backed collateral to bridge the gap, according to a Mondaq report on the sector's financing problem.

BNP Paribas Warns Oil Above USD 100 Threatens India's Growth

BNP Paribas warned that rising crude prices, broader commodity inflation and slowing rural and industrial activity could create fresh headwinds for India's growth in the coming months, according to a new report from the bank.

The warning lands as Brent crude has crossed the USD 100 per barrel mark, according to Open magazine, a level policymakers watch for its impact on inflation, imports and household spending.

India relies on imports for roughly 90% of its crude oil consumption, according to FXStreet. That exposure ties domestic prices closely to global crude moves.

New York Data Center Pipeline Reaches 9.74 GW Across 28 Projects, Cleanview Says

New York now has 28 planned data center projects in development, together adding up to 9.74 GW of potential new electrical demand, based on a September 2026 count from energy-infrastructure tracker Cleanview.

Cleanview put the annual draw of that pipeline at roughly 85 TWh, the figure the projects would reach if the full capacity ran around the clock.

Against that pipeline, Cleanview counts just 264 MW of data center capacity currently running in the state under its methodology, leaving the proposed total almost 37 times larger than the operating fleet it tracks.

State officials reported in July that data center load requests in the New York Independent System Operator interconnection queue had reached nearly 12 GW, with more than 8 GW of that filed during 2025.

Sodium-Ion Storage Works in the Lab but Unproven at Scale, ESS News Reports

Sodium-ion battery chemistry functions but remains unproven at scale, according to ESS News. The technology works in principle, but its performance across large deployments has yet to be demonstrated.

ESS News reported that sodium-ion has no field-validated degradation curve at scale. Every cycle-life claim on a sodium-ion spec sheet currently rests on laboratory data and manufacturer projections rather than operating history.

Warranty structures, state-of-health protocols and cycle-life guarantees all lack independent third-party verification at the scale lenders and offtakers require, according to ESS News.

The outlet framed sodium-ion as a potential long-term response to flattening lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cost curves and tight supply chains. But its lack of field-validated performance data transfers technology and bankability risks directly onto developer balance sheets, ESS News reported.

UK Wind and Solar Avoided GBP 5.9 Billion in Gas Imports During Hormuz Crisis, Carbon Brief Says

The UK avoided the need for GBP 5.9 billion of gas imports since the start of the Hormuz crisis because of record wind and solar generation, according to Carbon Brief analysis.

Wind and solar output rose 14% year-on-year, Carbon Brief found, while gas prices climbed to levels not seen since the 2022 energy crisis. That clean-power generation cut demand for gas-fired electricity, which fell by nearly 10% year-on-year in 2026 to date.

Wind and solar supplied a record 41% of the UK's electricity needs in 2026 to date, compared with 25% from gas, according to Carbon Brief's analysis.

The avoided imports were equivalent to more than 100 additional tanker deliveries of liquefied natural gas, Carbon Brief said.

In September 2026 to date, the gas-import saving reached GBP 1.3 billion, the result of nearly 10 TWh of combined wind and solar output alongside surging gas prices, according to Carbon Brief.

IONNA Passes 180 US Fast-Charging Sites, Adds Hyundai and Mercedes Discounts

IONNA now operates more than 180 DC fast-charging sites across the US, according to Electrek. The automaker-backed network says it has more than doubled its footprint since the start of 2026 and describes itself as the largest 400 kW charging network in the US.

The network uses Alpitronic hardware and software developed in-house, according to Electrek.

More than 40 IONNA Rechargeries have opened at Circle K locations since the company announced its partnership with the convenience store chain in April, Electrek reported.

As of October 1, Hyundai and Mercedes-Benz have joined BMW in offering 10% IONNA charging discounts through their automaker apps and Plug & Charge, according to Electrek.
