Rooftop Solar to Be Switched Off in Australian Grid Backstop Test

Rooftop solar systems in Australia will be switched off as part of a test of a grid backstop system, according to RenewEconomy.

The exercise was described as "like a fire drill for the grid", RenewEconomy reported.

Backstop arrangements give system operators the ability to curtail distributed rooftop solar output when grid conditions require it. The test puts that capability through a live rehearsal rather than leaving it untried until an actual emergency.
