BDx Breaks Ground on 640 MW AI Data Center Campus in West Java

BDx Data Centers has broken ground on a 640 MW AI data center campus in Jatiluhur, West Java, Indonesia, according to a company announcement carried by Event Registry.

The project, designated AI Campus 2 (CGK4), is backed by 845 MVA of grid capacity from Indonesian state utility PLN.

The first building on the campus will deliver 120 MW of IT capacity in phases. The first contracted phase of Building 1 is expected to enter service in early 2027.

Queensland to Power Data Centres with Coal and Gas, Rejects Federal Coalition Nuclear Push

The Queensland government said it will power data centres in the Australian state with coal and gas, according to RenewEconomy.

At the same time, Queensland will not support the federal Coalition's push for nuclear power, RenewEconomy reported.

The position sets the state's approach to data centre electricity supply apart from the federal opposition's energy platform, keeping fossil generation as the backbone for new digital infrastructure load while ruling out nuclear as an option.

Data Centre Boom Meets Market-Design Bottleneck as EU Logs 1,223 Negative-Price Hours in Q1 2026

The rapid build-out of data centres and the mechanics of the energy transition are colliding, according to commentary published across three outlets this week, with market design emerging as a tighter constraint than technology itself.

EU day-ahead electricity markets recorded 1,223 hours of negative prices in the first quarter of 2026, according to a column published on CEPR's VoxEU. The same column argues that market design, not technology, is now the binding constraint on the energy transition, and that addressing it requires rethinking how renewable investment is financed and how demand is brought into the system.

On the demand side, Reccessary reports that Australia's data centres could raise power bills, pressure water supplies and slow the transition to net zero unless they are carefully designed. The framing places computing load alongside grid, water and decarbonisation planning rather than treating it as a standalone infrastructure question.

Quartz situates the current build-out in a longer historical frame, reporting that historians say the present-day data-centre land rush has much in common with previous land rushes.

Sunrun and SPAN Expand Partnership to Power Distributed Edge Compute Nodes in Homes

Sunrun and SPAN have expanded their partnership to pair residential energy systems with distributed compute infrastructure, aiming to add AI compute capacity through homes rather than centralized data centers, according to a joint announcement carried by GlobeNewswire.

Under the expanded arrangement, Sunrun will supply home solar and battery storage to power SPAN's XFRA distributed data center solution, the companies said.

The two firms plan to work with homebuilders to install the systems in new-build residential communities in Texas and other specified markets, embedding distributed AI infrastructure into developments during construction.

According to the announcement, each host customer will receive a smart electrical panel paired with a multi-battery storage and solar system through a prepaid lease, at no cost to the builder or the homeowner and without raising the purchase price of the home. Host customers will also receive whole-home backup power and ongoing compensation for hosting an XFRA compute node.
