Scientists find uranium-bearing minerals at Bessemer mine pit
Researchers from the University of the Philippines-Diliman, DOST-PNRI and Akita University identified uranium-bearing minerals in surface deposits at the Bessemer mine pit in Jose Panganiban, Camarines Norte, Philippines, Event Registry reported.
The examined material's main uranium-bearing mineral was uraninite, according to the report.
Researchers also developed a laboratory process to concentrate the uranium-bearing material for further testing.
Because the study examined surface samples, it did not establish the depth, thickness or extent of the uranium-bearing zones in Camarines Norte.
