Virginia framework would limit data center gas generation

Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger's Data Center Accountability Framework would limit electricity generated by data centers using on-site or behind-the-meter natural gas, according to Event Registry.

Event Registry reported that Commonwealth Fusion Systems is building a commercial fusion plant in Virginia's Chesterfield County with capacity of up to 400 MW.

J.P. Morgan says Europe data centre growth could strengthen nuclear case

Europe's accelerating data centre buildout could strengthen the case for new nuclear capacity as technology companies seek dependable, low-carbon electricity for AI infrastructure, J.P. Morgan analysts said.

European Commission estimates indicate that data centre electricity consumption could rise from about 70 TWh currently to roughly 115 TWh by 2030.

Google agreed to a 22-year power purchase agreement with Fortum covering nuclear generation in Finland, according to Event Registry.

Greater chip efficiency lets engineers pack more computing capacity into server racks, while hyperscalers use that capacity for larger AI models and workloads rather than reducing power consumption, Event Registry reported.

AI data-centre boom changes British industrial land values

The AI data-centre boom is changing how industrial land is valued in Britain, according to Event Registry.

Google and Microsoft support nationally consistent rules for Australia's data-centre sector while seeking flexibility in meeting energy and sustainability requirements, Event Registry reported.

In Ireland, a lack of concrete data on data centres' contribution leaves the debate open to spin, according to Event Registry.

The physical infrastructure needed to sustain the AI boom is already proving highly contentious, Event Registry said.

An Event Registry item citing The Guardian said a New Jersey AI infrastructure project received a USD 1.07 million environmental penalty after officials determined that dozens of natural-gas generators operated without required air permits.
