Photon Marine wins USD 1 million award for New York marine electrification

The NSF Energy Storage Engine in Upstate New York selected Photon Marine for its inaugural USD 1 million MegaBoost award, according to GlobeNewswire Energy.

The award supports a commercial-scale marine electrification and distributed energy storage demonstration in New York State, GlobeNewswire Energy reported.

Photon Marine will integrate three technologies: an electric workboat, marine fast-charging infrastructure and a floating energy storage and charging platform, according to GlobeNewswire Energy.

The project will advance development and deployment of a 40 kW marine DC fast charger for vessels using New York’s waterways, the wire reported.

GlobeNewswire Energy said the ChargeBarge floating platform will carry battery storage and high-power charging equipment, allowing energy to move between waterfront locations without permanent fast-charging infrastructure at each site.

New York City weighs more than 20 micromobility bills

New York City lawmakers are preparing to consider more than 20 bills covering e-bikes, electric scooters, mopeds, delivery apps and enforcement, according to Electrek.

Three proposals would specifically target Class 3 e-bikes, which are currently legal in New York, Electrek reported.

New York City Councilmember Crystal Hudson introduced a bill that would prohibit shops from selling or renting Class 3 e-bikes.

A separate Hudson proposal would prohibit people from riding Class 3 e-bikes on streets, in parks or in other public spaces, according to Electrek.

Vandalism disables 28 Tesla charging bays in Ballarat

electrive reported that vandalism at two Tesla Supercharger sites in Ballarat, Victoria, left 28 charging bays completely inoperable, including one site that had opened only days earlier.

Local authorities and experts attributed the Australian incidents to rising copper theft rather than anti-EV or anti-Musk sentiment, according to electrive.

The process will give Brightline time to borrow another USD 490 million as it seeks to keep up with payments on USD 4.4 billion in debt accumulated from building, expanding and operating the railroad, according to Grist.
