California Judge Deems Tesla Liable for Fraud in Solar Roof Lawsuit

A California judge has ruled Tesla liable for fraud in a Solar Roof lawsuit after the company repeatedly failed to hand over evidence, according to Electrek.

Tesla had already admitted it breached the contract, broke its warranty, and was negligent on the Solar Roof job. When the company missed yet another deadline for producing evidence, the court on September 11 deemed Tesla liable for fraud and negligent misrepresentation.

The ruling limits the remaining trial on those claims to compensatory and punitive damages, according to Electrek.

Bank of America warns sustained oil-price gains could push interest rates significantly higher

Bank of America rates strategist Ralph Axel warned that continued oil-price increases over the next three to six months could lead to significantly higher interest rates, according to reporting by The Ledger-Enquirer and TheStreet.

Axel pointed to swap-market data to support the argument. Through November 4, U.S. two-year swap rates cumulatively rose 196 basis points on days when oil gained ground, fell 83 basis points on other days, and were up 113 basis points overall, according to TheStreet.

The mechanism runs through consumer costs: elevated oil prices feed into transportation, manufacturing, and daily commuting expenses, raising inflationary pressure, according to The Ledger-Enquirer. Investors may then demand greater compensation for that inflation risk, pushing market interest rates higher and complicating the Federal Reserve's efforts to contain rising prices.

Inflation already sits above the Fed's 2% target, according to TheStreet. Another sustained increase in fuel costs could make the central bank's task harder still.

Wall Street Energy Transition Funds Eye Profits in Natural Gas and Data Centers

Some Wall Street energy transition funds see profit opportunities in natural gas, data centers, and rising electricity costs, according to the Good Men Project.

Blackstone's energy transition fund is explicit in its view that methane gas, a fossil fuel and the primary component of natural gas, is essential to the energy transition, the report noted. The framing marks a divergence from narrower definitions of "energy transition" centered on renewables and decarbonization, with certain investment vehicles treating fossil fuel infrastructure and power-hungry digital facilities as core holdings.
