Volkswagen's ID. AURA sedan highlights China-developed software architecture with European ambitions

Volkswagen's ID. AURA L5, a pure-electric family sedan jointly designed by Chinese and German teams, spotlights the automaker's bet that software developed in China can anchor its global EV lineup.

The vehicle runs on Volkswagen Group's China Electronic Architecture (CEA), which has already enabled five models from three joint ventures at scale, with software iterations completed this year, according to Electrek. CEA delivers three stated advantages for the group's new models in China: intelligent accessibility, continuous upgrades, and safety redundancy.

The architecture's reach may extend well beyond China. Autocar reported, citing internal discussions confirmed by Volkswagen brand CEO Thomas Schäfer, that up to 75% of Volkswagen's core models in Europe could eventually use CEA.
