Brent-WTI spread widens to around USD 12.59 per barrel

The Brent-WTI spread widened on Friday to around USD 12.59 per barrel, its highest level since May, according to Event Registry.

Event Registry attributed the widening to concerns over a possible US diesel-export ban, Middle East supply risks, rising freight costs and changing US control over Venezuelan crude.

LSEG data showed WTI traded as much as USD 12.02 per barrel below Brent on September 24, its widest discount since May 6.

Lower US refinery demand would pressure US crude prices and widen WTI's discount to Brent, Event Registry reported.
